Review of The Life and Death of Colonel Blimp (1943) by James T — 30 Mar 2008
A surprisingly modern and objective film, considering it was intended as an anti-Nazi propaganda movie - Winston Churchill actually tried to have it banned. Even more surprisingly, Anton Walbrook as the German officer is probably the most sympathetic character (and is given the strongest anti-Nazi speeh!), although Livesy and Kerr are both very good in their roles.
Their relationships are traced out over the decades from the Boer War to WWII and form the emotional core of the film. It's perhaps slightly longer than it needed to be but is a British classic.
