Review of The Libertine (2004) by Janelle C — 07 Mar 2009
The movie is beautifully depressing, much like the England it portrays. Often dark and grainy.
THE LIBERTINE is not for the faint of heart or will, and both Depp and Wilmot will put you to the test on how much excess one person can take. I can't stress enough how you will despise Wilmot but somehow you keep watching to see what the hell happens to this guy.
It's like Behind the Music without the Music. Luckily, redemption is in Wilmot's future and when it comes, you will be so into the thing that you'll feel great emotion. In short, THE LIBERTINE is one hell of a dark and depressing journey, but I found it worth taking. However, as Depp claims at the beginning, not everyone will like it. Thanks to Johnny Depp for being in the movie, "i loved it".
