Review of The Libertine (2004) by Jacob D — 17 Dec 2009
If you dislike great acting, don't see this movie. If you're not a Johnny Depp fan (as I was, and more or less still am), then give it a shot. He excels with an awesome performance, peaking at the end, in a compelling gritty movie about a debauched yet vaguely respectable Englishman and his downfall, only after falling in love.
Slightly hard to understand because of the eloquent dialogue and slow in parts, but the narration and acting is superb so if you have patience and like a good drama with some sporadic laughs, then give this a try.
Fuck the critics, this is a good movie; watchability is low, nonetheless (as most lengthy dramas are).
