Review of The Letter (1940) by Monsieur R — 01 Sep 2010
Woman loves man, woman gets jealous of man, woman shoots and kills man. Never mind she is married to someone else who adores her, but he is not good enough.
Davis spins a tale of self defense about the victum, persuades her long time friend/lawyer to suppress evidence (the letter) and succeeds in beating a rap of murder one.
High society in an island rubber plantation, Davis and husband are up to their necks in rich friends, but hardly wealthy themselves, except by native standards.
Davis beats the death penalty rap, but in the end justice finds a way in the form of the victums newly wed wife who has not one word of script in the entire film.
Watch out for the knife, its a killer.
