Review of The Letter (1940) by Johannes J — 10 Jul 2011
Entertaining melodrama which sees the great Bette Davis reunite with director William Wyler in a film that stands out from her back catalogue as being darker and more intense than her more typical offerings.
Nominated for 7 Oscars the film is well-crafted and an immensely classy affair, featuring a number of solid performances and an intriguing plot that allows Davis to play up her sultriness to great effect.
By all means worth seeking out.
