Review of The Letter (1940) by Martin B — 22 Sep 2010
Engaging William Wyler film starring Bette Davis as a woman who kills a man and tries to prove that it was in self defense. Great opening and it's got a good setting. Gale Sondergaard plays her usual sinister character, looking extra evil with extreme glaring eyes and never really talking.
The rest of the cast is good as well, especially Herbert Marshall as Bette's husband. Great classic film score and wonderful use of shadows at night. Perfect ending as well.
