Review of The Leopard (1963) by Zane V — 09 Sep 2007
Exquisitely filmed, strikingly designed epic about the declining aristocracy in the face of revolution in 1860s Sicily. Overlong but effectively grandiose and poignant, with a lush score by Nino Rota and a great performance by Burt Lancaster as the Prince.
A grand narrative that is really an intimate family portrait against a sprawling backdrop, unfolds like a good novel.
