Review of The Leopard (1963) by Jon G — 13 Oct 2007
Luchino Visconti's lavish adaptation of the Giuseppe Tomasi di Lampedusa novel chronicling the waning days of the Sicilian Aristocracy. The fall of the house of Salina is captured through the eyes of is aged prince, played beautifully by Burt Lancaster.
The sheer opulence of the film does not diminish the performances, which are also standout, nor the historical aspects, including the revolutionary battle at Palermo. Unforgettable.
