Review of The Legend of Tarzan (2016) by Sam F — 03 Aug 2016
Legend of Tarzan has a lot of really good ideas going in. It throws interesting historical context in, it presents a compelling and benevolent motivation for its heroes. And for the most part, its absolutely gorgeous, in a somber kind of way. But Tarzan as a character is hard to like, and the film can't seem to decide between its two tones: cartoonish dialogue and action, or something darker and more personal. It probably would've done either of these really well if it had reined in the other just a tad more.
The third act is also really out-of-nowhere and rushed.
