Review of The Legend of Hercules (2014) by Robert H — 26 Feb 2015
Not a good sign when you fall asleep several times in a movie, but thankfully with today's modern technology, I can rewind as many times as I like back to the beginning! That's exactly what I did with this one and although it's not the greatest spectacle ever, I would be doing it an injustice to blame it for my tiredness.
By attempting to model itself on previous battle arena based films it's very unlikely that it will prevail, but it did have a moderately watchable storyline that could be followed if not always enjoyed.
I don't think I was aware of any of the actors or actresses in this but that's not to say they didn't do a good job. The lack of emotional impact made this film suffer, whilst there was too much love themed interaction, and not enough battle based footage.
I was left a little confused by the end, and it certainly looked like its scenes were made for the 3d viewer as opposed to the film critics amongst us. It will no doubt be (if it's not already) a forgotten entity that is not in the league of Clash of the Titans and such like.
I think these movies have had their time and I can't think of a suitable target audience for this anymore as teenage boys are no longer into action figures or strong powerful warriors as its all about girls, fast cars, and non stop action - why do you think they have made a countless number of Fast & Furious movies to date? With the high tech special effects and weopanry, there's enough to keep us amused for a short while, but this movie lacks a cutting edge, lacks familiar faces, blood, and basically any real purpose.
Its like Gladiator without the bite and is nothing but a mere pawn in the ancient history cinematic setting!
