Review of The Legend of Bagger Vance (2000) by Lizzy D — 05 Aug 2007

I hate golf; I think it's the most tedious sport ever invented. Nonetheless, I enjoyed this movie. This is not your typical sports film where there's a big game in the end. There's only one game that lasts from beginning to end.

Think of it as "Field of Dreams" due to its fantastic atmosphere and higher power implications. Matt Damon is great as expected and Will Smith adds laughter from here in there in order to keep the film from being too serious.

Charlize Theron did a good job, too, although I think she didn't have to try as hard here because she's naturally poised and elegant. I don't think much happened in the film but it did make me root for Matt Damon's character because he is the underdog compared to his competitors.

Sometimes, one can use a peaceful film where one does not have to think too much. It's even better if it's well-made like this one.
