Review of The Lazarus Effect (2015) by Eytan D — 21 Nov 2015
"The Lazarus Effect" has all the potential to be one of the standouts of Blumhouse Productions. At its core is a really interesting premise for a horror film, sort of a "Frankenstein" meets "The Fly" universe.
And the cast is good too (even though none of the characters are exactly unpredictable, they still manage decently, especially Olivia Wilde and Mark Duplass). But "The Lazarus Effect" only disappoints, like the majority of the films in the PG-13 horror bin.
It wastes an opportunity for a cool story on genre cliches, the jump scares can be spotted a mile away, and the characters pretty much make every mistake the stereotypes in horror films make. Overall, a decent rental? Maybe.
But hardly a classic and not nearly as innovative as it could've been.
