Review of The Lazarus Effect (2015) by Campbell P — 28 Feb 2015
The Lazarus Effect is a "horror" movie by the people that brought us Insidious. If I didn't know that I wouldn't believe it because this is in no terms as good or as scary as Insidious.
The positives to this movie are that the acting was actually pretty good! Olivia Wilde, Mark Duplass, and Donald Glover were all good in the movie. The others were good but not quite as good as the three named.
Clay acted a bit over the top at times which was kinda distracting. The premise of the movie is the other plus. The idea of these smart people creating a serum that brings the dead back to life is really cool! The movie brings some of that coolness to the screen but I got my hopes up too high.
The part that I look forward to in a horror movie is the creepy factor and if it's going to stick with me. I did not feel that at all in this film. There was a select one part that was creepy and that's when Ava was in the halls with the flashlight trying to inject the serum into Zoe, that was my favorite part of the movie.
This movie isn't completely awful but it's not very good and it's a disappointment. The Lazarus Effect failed to be anything special or especially scary but it had some good acting and a tiny creepy factor.
It could've been a lot better if there was a good ending and more of a buildup. The movie had a couple laugh moments and I shouldn't be unintentionally laughing at something that's not funny in a horror movie.
D+.
