Review of The Laughing Policeman (1973) by Rob J — 23 Sep 2010
While other directors gain critical kudos ,the Work of director Stuart Rosenberg seems to have fallen of the radar, which is a shame because he did churn out some rather interesting work including Cool Hand Luke,WUSA,The Drowning Pool and this interesting police thriller.
Walter Matthau is very good in a serious role as a cop called in to investigate a murder on a bus which claimed 8 victims.
The film concentrates on the course of the investigation and the film has a good feel for police work.
Rosenberg also casts very well here with Bruce Dern and Lou Gossett bothe very good as cops on the case.
The film does wander in some places but the opening murders and the final pursuit are all welll done.
Another lost 70s classic which deserves to be unearthed on DVD.
