Review of The Last Winter (2006) by Justin B — 06 Nov 2008
This movie really could have been something. It had a great premise that made it feel a little like the first half of Sunshine set in the world of The Thing, where there's nothing really terrorizing them but an increasingly lethal environment playing tricks on them.
But in the end it really lost me, bringing in some possible element of the supernatural completely out of left field. It would have been fine if they had more slowly built towards it, but they really had me sold on a completely scientific explanation.
The film had a fantastically creepy mood to it and some really beautiful cinematography (especially for a low budget horror film) and really could have been something special had it not been for the unsatisfying ending.
