Review of The Last Wave (1977) by Shawn-Ray M — 24 Apr 2009
There are a lot of things in this movie that work (the acting, the apocalyptic imagery, the sense of inevitable dread and doom) but the pacing isn't one of them. Normally, I enjoy a movie that takes its time to tell its story but this one seemed like it was trying to tell two separate stories but mashing them together to save effort.
The film moves very slowly, taking its sweet time to build everything up, which is alright... I just Weir could have made the rest of the situation a bit more interesting as it isn't until the last half hour that things started to pick up and some sort of point was made.
