Review of The Last Unicorn (1982) by Dann M — 04 Aug 2012
Peter S. Beagle's beloved fantasy classic, The Last Unicorn, is brought to life in this Rankin/Bass animated film. When a unicorn learns that she could be the last of her kind, and that the others have been driven into the sea, she sets out on a quest to save them.
Starring the voice talents of Mia Farrow, Jeff Bridges, Angela Lansbury, and Christopher Lee, the film has a strong cast. However, the animation is weak and doesn't have much depth or texture to it.
And, the soundtrack by America doesn't really work. Yet despite the flaws, The Last Unicorn still carries the enchantment and spirit of Beagle's original tale.
