Review of The Last Temptation of Christ (1988) by Kenneth S — 11 Feb 2009
In my opinion, this is the most inspirational film ever made about Jesus. Based on a novel by Nikos Kazantzakis, Martin Scorsese's masterpiece centers on the internal struggle of Jesus to accept his destiny and become what he was meant to be.
It is the idea of Jesus working through his human instincts to accept God's will that makes the film so inspirational. Ironically, it is also what makes it so controversial. Many Christians aren't willing to accept anything other than what the Bible expressly states, regardless of the fact that this is, quite possibly, what the reality of the times and situation really was.
The film may be long, but it never ceases to be fascinating and is never boring. It flies by as we journey with Jesus from one tribulation to the next. The "Last Temptation" of the title is a must-see.
