Review of The Last Temptation of Christ (1988) by Thomas M — 17 Feb 2010
This is my personal favorite film regarding relgion. To all those people who claim this film is blasphemous and wrong: shut the hell up and pay attention to what is actually happening on the screen. All it is is partisan political bullshit.
Seeing what you choose to see to make your point clearer when you miss the point of why it was made in the first place. This is a very spiritual and deeply religous movie. Yeah it shows Jesus engaging in intercourse but there is a reason.
The damn devil is trying to convince him to not be the savior of mankind by offering him a normal everyday life. In the end Jesus tells the devil to shove off. Thats it. Its not like in "Family Guy" where they show Jesus doing cheap parlour tricks or vaudeville skits.
Willen Defoe is brilliant as Jesus. Harvey Keitel makes a great pontous pilot. This film is well edited and you can tell Martin Scorsese really had a personal passion for this. Espescially since he wanted to be a ordained preist when he was young.
