I don't know anything about Tolstoy, so if you do you would probably enjoy this more than I did. Helen mirren and James mcavoy delivered very good performances. Highlight of the film for me was Helen mirren running across the garden, onto the pier, then lying down and melodramatically rolling off the pier and into the lake! Haha!
