Review of The Last Station (2009) by Paul K — 19 Mar 2013
British luvviedom does its thing. While the cream of the crop act their backsides off to a great script amidst realistic scenery - after all, it's a German-British-Russian coproduction - somehow, it falls a bit flat.
Perhaps because it's real life and not a contrived narrative, with lots of toing and froing, with Sofya (Helen Mirren) doing histrionics at every turn. Perhaps too because Eleanor kept falling asleep, meaning we watched it in three installments!
