Review of The Last Station (2009) by Linda S — 17 Dec 2009
A simultaneously humorous and heartfelt examination on love's profound and devious effects, portrayed efficiently by Hoffman's focused direction and talented cast. Mirren gives her best performance since "The Queen" and steals each scene she's in with her dynamic display of jealousy, rage, and feistiness but manages to blend in an admirable aspect of underlying heart--a challenging, complex blend of emotions conveyed so well by Mirren.
Giamatti, McAvoy, and (especially) Plummer give terrific supporting performances in this unconventional, offbeat, but ultimately warm period piece.
