Review of The Last Station (2009) by Rita S — 28 Feb 2010
Surprisingly touching love story set in Tolstoy's last days. Plummer, Giamatti and McAvoy are all fine in their roles, but this is Helen Mirren's movie. As an actor she takes you to school in the art.
To see her possess the character Sofya, Tolstoy's wife, with the range of emotions she is able express, from playful seductress to raging bitch, you are able to see that this is a performance truly worth its Oscar nomination.
