Review of The Last Station (2009) by Christopher N — 22 Jun 2013
Powerfully affecting drama of Tolstoy's last days. I wept. Helen Mirren as Tolstoy's volatile wife, proves once again she's about the best actress on earth, my heart nearly broke for her character.
Plummer's good, McAvoy's very good, and newcomer to me Kerry Condon also very good. For my German friends, the scenes on Tolstoy's estate were actually shot in Saxony-Anhalt, where Patrushka's mother originated.
