Review of The Last Station (2009) by Damion R — 10 Mar 2010
No doubt not the most fast-paced film of the year, superb performances by the ever-perfect Helen Mirren and wonderful Christopher Plummer made this film pass with ease.
As Sofya Tolstaya, Mirren is exhilirating as she shows the struggles with Tolstoy's decision to leave his intellectual property rights to the people rather to his wife, insuring her future and that of her children. Yes, a history lesson, but with seamless execution by the two Oscar-nominated leads under the direction of Michael Hoffman, this lesson is a joy to experience.
Is there anything that Mirren cannot electrify?
