Review of The Last Station (2009) by Selwyn L — 03 Apr 2010
To borrow the words of the two old ladies at the cafe after the show, it was a "satisfying movie". A rather indulgent but fascinating look at how the people fighting a socio-political cause can lose sight of the very essence of their message of love, obsessing over the iconic and simplistic idea behind it instead.
While Mirren delivers a consumate Sofya and Plummer a convincing Leo Tolstoy, it was nice to see McAvoy in a movie together with his real life wife Anne-Marie Duff, having become big fans of theirs after first noticing their endearing, stand out performances in the TV series Shameless.
