Review of The Last Station (2009) by James H — 27 Jun 2010
68/100. It is certainly beautifully produced and exquisite to look at. The costumes, art direction and cinematography are all amazing. The acting is as well, especially Helen Mirren, who is brilliant. Christopher Plummer and Paul Giamatti are both excellent in supporting roles.
The film is far from perfect, and falters with Michael Hoffman's heavy handed and direction that is too intense, the screenplay is unnecessarily complex and morose. The score is pleasantly subtle and the film is worth watching, mainly for the performances.
