Review of The Last Station (2009) by Tara A — 15 Jul 2011
Beautiful depiction of Tolstoy's last days and the depth of his relationship with his wife Sofya, through thick and thin. It is also a clever critique of idealistic movements, where individuals exchange simple human decency in the present for a vague "good for humanity" in the remote future (which usually never comes). Fanatics of a new movement become as intransigent as the evils they railed against in the first place. It reminded me of the saying "más papista que el papa".
Great performances by all the cast.
