Review of The Last Starfighter (1984) by James M — 23 Jul 2010
This is a film I thought very few people had seen and that there weren't many people who even knew of it, however I've learnt that is not true. This is a truely classic Sci-fi film and in a way, kind of a gamers movie. It starts with a teenager who wants to get out of this ass backwards town and go places, going to college and then into the city. However, he gains a high-score and then that night he runs into the mysterious Centauri who acts like one of those cheesy door-to-door salesman, but that's the point. He receals to him that the StarLeague is real and that the video game was a test to go, find and recruit someone worthy enough to be a Starfighter, the elite fighters who help protect the universe from The emporor Zer. A definant must see.
In other news I have heard roumers of a sequal. Not too positive at that prospect, but who knows. There's certainly a lot of area to expand with the ending. I'm not going to spoil the ending, but there is a lot of stuff they they could add to this.
The DVD release annoyed me because it's only in region one so us in the UK are stuck.
