Review of The Last Starfighter (1984) by Brad G — 14 Aug 2011
"Greetings Starfighter! You have been recruited by the Star League to defend the Frontier against Xur and the Ko-Dan armada." And with that and just a drop of a quarter trailerpark daydreamer Alex Rogan is wrenched from planet Earth and forced to confront his destiny as savior of the universe while strapped aboard an actual Gun Star with its deadly Death Blossom.
The Last Starfighter is the hereall and endall of 80s wish fulfillment flicks. You, The Nobody, even though all you do is watch movies and play video games all day long, You matter and the world needs your rad skills.
Besides, you've got a smokin' hot girlfriend who will put up with your tongue-tied android double, a lizard man co-piolot voiced with the ultimate authority in Dan O'Herilihy, and Robert Preson's shyster change-o-face con man to back up your every move.
Yeah, The Last Starfighter is awesome. VF.
