Review of The Last Stand (2013) by Ana B — 30 Jul 2013
Archetypical thriller starring Arnold Schwarzenegger as Ray Owens, a small town sheriff that has his day turned upside down when he finds out that the most dangerous prisoner in the USA, a drug cartel lord, has escaped police custody and is heading his way. The criminal is planning to crossover to Mexico through this tiny town using a mobile bridge and for that he will stop at nothing, destroying anything that could become an obstacle ad killing anyone that stands in his way.
We are all used to this sort of film the underdog and his small circle of loyal friends fighting against a sophisticated army. It is a little unbelievable, but if the script is good it might be easier to swallow, but it isn't the case here. Don't get me wrong it is a correct film, performances and action scenes are properly done, it is just that everything is so cliché, so common place, seen so many times, even the jokes are predictable; there isn't anything remotely surprising or original. Plus the baddies are so extremely evil and the heroes are so outstanding and noble...it is very hard to believe. It is a very violent film too: lots of blood splashes and brains blown out so don't watch it while you have dinner.
