Some great films don't lose their edge over time - the tools that made movies in 1971 are primitive compared to what we've got these 37 years later, and you can see some old conventions in staging and direction, but the heart of this bleak nihilistic film pulses strong over the decades.

The wind in Anarene, Texas blows hard through the wreckage of dreams and hopes and joys. It's put together with beauty and kindness and sympathy, written strong and acted hard. The use of music is pretty much brilliant, and the flip-side of silence seems to eat the words sometimes.

What a film.
