Review of The Last Picture Show (1971) by Mark N — 09 May 2010
The Last Picture Show isn't a movie about sex even though there is a lot of sex in it. The film is about imprisonment, death in literal and figurative and repression. Sex is more representative of the emotions the characters feel in the movie.
The characters are also real people in a real movie. They aren't overly beautiful people, but they are very interesting people. The film is shot in glorious black and white because it could be shot no other way.
Overall, it is a great film that cannot be made today, which is a shame.
