Review of The Last Picture Show (1971) by Roland S — 16 May 2010
Subtle, sparse, daring and has influenced so many films since it was released. The movie is beautifully framed, the characters are beautifully written and the acting is astounding. Bogdanovich pulls no punches creating a film about growing up and leaving the comfort of youth behind.
People act as they most likely would in reality and there is no glorification of youth. Perhaps there is a yearning, but the film is at its core a meticulous study of the breaking of the delusions of youth.
