Review of The Last Picture Show (1971) by Matthew T — 27 Apr 2013
Cloris Leachman proves that comedic actors are perfectly cast in dramatic roles. As an epitaph for the American dream in the middle of the last century, it's really moving. Everyone in the movie is so contained in their prescribed social roles, that they can hardly breathe life into themselves.
The characters all seem to be living in a bleak oblivion, and as they all awaken to this, it becomes really sad.
