Review of The Last of the Mohicans (1992) by Danny R — 12 Dec 2011
A majestic and rousing epic adventure with a passionate and charismatic central performance by Daniel Day-Lewis, as Hawkeye a rugged frontiersman and adopted son of a Mohican scout named Chingachgook, played superbly by Russell Means who's love for Cora Munro, played by the beautiful Madeleine Stowie in a luminous performance as the aristocratic daughter of a brutal British Colonel.
Hawkeye and Cora In the midst of the French and Indian War will have their love will tested by fate as British and the French along with their Native American allies engage in brutal, bloody warfare. Superlative performances by the entire cast with Wes Studi a standout as Magua, a murderous revenge seeking Huron warrior who is one of the fiercest and most hateful villians in screen history.
Brilliantly directed by Michael Mann who co-wrote the screenplay with Christopher Crowe, A sweeping score by Trevor Jones and Randy Edelman, breathtaking cinematography by Dante Spinotti and flawless period recreation.
A rewarding motion picture experience. Highly Recommended.
