Review of The Last of the Mohicans (1992) by Paul P — 17 Dec 2011
While its not what "really" happened, nor is it one of Michael Mann's best films, it has a few solid elements, plus its well made and acted. Acting across the board is impressive, even actors that have little to sink there teeth into shine.
The big battle scenes are impressive. Mann's attention to detail on the Indians, the battles, the history of each side is to be commended. The movie headlines the love story of Hawkeye and Cora Munro.
But its as if Mann glanced over it. There is little to no depth in it. Having there story play out in front of the this chaotic backdrop of a 3 group war doesn't seem right. But Daniel Day and Medeleine Stowe play there scenes for keeps.
The scene of them at the waterfall should be cheesy and hamfisted but they make you believe it.
