Review of The Last Lovecraft: Relic of Cthulhu (2009) by Carlo M — 01 Aug 2011
Something perfect for the Adult Swim stoner laughs crowd The Last Lovecraft is largely about two very generic twenty something buddies who compete on who is the bro-est while the threat of Cthulus rise looms on the other side of a few too many gay jokes.
The humor runs from slapstick to sophomoric very quickly but it doesn't really have all the strength it needs to entertain throughout. Oddly, the real gems of the movie are the smaller parts who seem to do their best to sell ridiculous lines.
A shell shocked sea captain flash backing to getting 'fish raped' held my attention more than the final fight at the climax. For an odd little drinking game take a shot whenever a character is talking to someone off camera or walks off and appears on the wrong side in the very next shot.
Cheers.
