Review of The Last Legion (2007) by Tom T — 09 Nov 2008
The film dies multiple times to only keep coming back. But it's that inconsistency that ultimately dooms it. There are moments of excellence followed by the untimely intervention of continuous plot.
You can feel it want to break loose and fly away into the upper echelons of historical fantasy, unfortunately it cannot. Thankfully the fun story tie-in revealed in the final act makes it worth while.
I give the cast all the credit from trying to make it not feel like a two hour miniseries. Only if the direction had been more tight... only if.
