Review of The Last Legion (2007) by Allen K — 02 Dec 2008
The Last Legion has Colin Firth, Ben Kingsley, Alexander Siddig, and the cute kid from Love Actually. It's set at the fall of Rome, and is about the quest of Romulus Augustus to travel the world trying to find the last legion of Roman soldiers who will fight for Rome.
Oh yeah, and Excalibur is in there too. And a hot South Asian chick. There aren't really any special effects or gore, which is pretty different considering it's a period piece there's a good deal of fighting.
It sort of reminded me of a tv miniseries, maybe because all the action was done by stuntmen like in Xena or Hercules. All the actors did a good job and played their roles well. But, it is indeed a period pieceâ?¦ so if you're not into the time setting of the fall or Rome, and if you need your action adventure to be super fast-paced with CG and special effects, you'll be disappointed.
On the other hand, if you're in love with Colin Firth, there's enough screen time to be happy. Oh yeah and if you care about historical stuff not being all that historical, and think mixing legends is fun.
Or you don't want to think too hard and want a nice straight plot to follow. Then this would be a good movie to chill and watch.
