Review of The Last Legion (2007) by John N — 23 Jan 2015
This is a far better film than the other reviews seem to indicate. Rather than "miscast", each of the leads are good actors who make their roles work. Colin Firth is the only one cast against type, but his confident charismatic Roman General never reminds you of either of his Darcy roles.
This is a fun, feel-good adventure film. Although certainly fantasy and not history, I did find it interesting that the boy Emperor and all of the major tribal leaders in Italy and Britain were actual historical figures. The historical fantasy comes in linking these figures to the lost legion and Merlin, but that is part of the fun.
