Review of The Last King of Scotland (2006) by B K — 01 Jul 2009
Idid Amin is phenomenal in his portrayal of a charismatic and charming yet brutal, menacing and paranoid dictator. Whether his portrayal is historically accurate- not sure. The rest of the cast appears wooden and lost in comparison, but that might be due to Whitaker's performance, and even might have been intentional to magnify Amin's bigger than life persona. Unfortunately, as has been mentioned, much of the history is incomplete, including the role of "the West" in creating him.
Final anlysis: sit back and enjoy the ride Whitaker takes us on.
