Review of The Last King of Scotland (2006) by Hunter H — 19 Oct 2009
Wow. The Last King Scotland is a unflinching tale of genocide. Forest Whitaker give a very intense performance. Amin is extremely bi-polar. One minute he'll be charming and a gentleman, but once your on his bad side, your screwed.
James McAvoy is great as well though his presence is not as ominous as Whitakers. He plays the character of cynical but naive doctor. In a sick way Amin was the doctors savior, kind of like jigsaw from Saw.
The film does not lose a beat. Whitaker's presence is ominous and without a doubt his best role--he tends to not play extravagant roles. One scene in particular is probably one of the most f-ed up things I have ever seen--you'll know exactly what I mean if have seen the film.
