Review of The Last King of Scotland (2006) by Christopher S — 06 Oct 2011
Great flim. Forest Whitaker's performance as Idi Amin is one of the greatest I have ever seen and Whitaker is a well-deserved Academy Award winner. What made this film even more amazing was how Whitaker transformed himself into one of the most despicable despots of modern times.
Amin was not mentioned as often as other cruel dictators and Kevin MacDonald's directing and Whitaker's acting brought Amin to a very chilling reality. James McAvoy, who I have to say has grown on me over the years, was solid as Nicholas, the Scottish physician who had unlimited access to Amin.
I loved how Nicholas's life and attitude toward Amin and Africa changed through the course of the film. Definitely one of the more underrated films I have seen in the last ten years and definitely one worth seeing.
