Review of The Last House on the Left (2009) by Paul M — 26 Nov 2012
Certainly a well made remake in all regards but that is probably also its downfall. It is ultimately a two part story which in both cases loses out to the original and also loses points for a shocking difference.
The original was far more gritty and sadistic and the fate of Mari is more heartbreaking and tragic. Although the violence and gore are more extreme and polished in the modern version it just cannot beat the overall feel of the original.
However, as a stand alone film and ultimately that is what it should be judged on it is a decent film and far better than most horrors of this ilk.
