Review of The Last House on the Left (2009) by Rowan C — 06 Feb 2013
?The Last House On The Left is a remake that works, updating on everything in the original and making it better. A darker, more violent, gritty horror film. The characters are more believable and much better acted. The intensity is greater and the two stories in the film; first of the daughter and her friend, and second focusing on the daughters parents as they seek revenge, works better here than it did in the original. What also works is how we don't have silly comical music over the top of the film, which to me, spoiled the original. One of the things that I thought would bother me is Aaron Paul who plays Jesse Pinkman from Breaking Bad. I imagined him saying, "What's up Mr. White?" a couple of times, but luckily he hardly became as much as a supporting character in the film as I thought he might have, so the Breaking Bad crossover I had in my head, I forgot about twenty minutes into the film.
A really intense horror film remake that works for once, and improves over the original.
