Review of The Last Hard Men (1976) by Jan D — 02 May 2008
Andrew V. McLaglens' hard hitting and nasty 1976 western "The Last Hard Men" sees the mighty James Coburn and the late great Charlton Heston go toe-to-toe in a dusty and blood soaked showdown in the Sonoran Desert.
James Coburn plays Zach Provo an escaped convict hell-bent on getting revenge on Sam Burgade a now retierd peace officer who was responsible for sending Zach to jail and killing his woman. Provo and his gang, members of the same ragged chaingang he escaped from, kidnaps Burgade's daughter and heads for the Mexican border.
The carnage that follows echoes both Peckinpah and Leone.
