Review of The Last Emperor (1987) by Moses S — 30 Jun 2009
A classic with Bertolucci at the top of his game. A real insight into the life of the poor-little-rich-boy tortured soul that was Aisin-Gioro Pu Yi. Beautifully shot and with a moving soundtrack. Great attention to details with on-loaction shooting in the Forbidden City and the Puppet Emperor's Palace in Changchun (Manchukuo), which is why the the only drawback of the film is so glaring - everybody is speaking English not Chinese!! Probably one of John Lone's better performances (besides Year of the Dragon).
