Review of The Last Emperor (1987) by Lin F — 16 Dec 2007
A biopic chronicling the last emperor of China, Henry PuYi. Set during the times of transition where Western influence is starting to be seen in imperial China. It gives a frank account of the man who was Emperor, his reign and eventually his downfall.
We Chinese have a saying, "A dynasty will not last over 3 generations". PuYi inherited a dynasty that is slowly slipping of its high horse with wide spread corruption, excesses by the imperial palace and a decadent lifestyle by the royal family.
An accurate account of China during the Japanese and later Communist rule. Highly recommended.
