Review of The Last Emperor (1987) by Miles H — 06 Jul 2008
I am a sucker for epic films and this film is no exception. I first saw "The Last Emperior" when it hit the theaters as this is a perfect movie to see on the big screen.
The cinematography here is amazing. It doesn't fail to astonish you after all these years. The problem is that except for O'toole's character and Pu Yi's interrogator it is hard to really like the characters. The main character allows things to happen to him -- very passive.
It still is a remarkable film that deserves to be seen and even owned.
